Only Lamborghini could give a name to car that is the local equivalent of a wolf whistle to a beautiful woman. But thats exactly what Countach means in Piedmontese, so its appropriate that this is the car that found its way on to the bedroom wall of every adolescent schoolboy and, along with the tennis player scratching her rear, kept Athena in business for so long.
The Countach's styling and visual impression caused it to become an icon of great design to almost everyone except automotive engineers, who recognised the various scoops and flaps as nothing more than window dressing or bodge jobs to fix certain problems. Still, it looks absolutely stunning.
Everybody wanted a Countach, except for the people that owned them. A virtual suicide mission in the wet and difficult to drive in the dry, the Countach was one of those cars that helped to establish the Raging Bulls reputation.
Its a slice of history and can be yours for less than the price of a bottom end Porsche 911. But choose carefully, or youll spend the same keeping it on the road.
